VANCOUVER, BC, Sept. 21, 2026 /CNW/ -- Members of Unifor Locals 111 and 2200 have voted to ratify a new collective agreement with Coast Mountain Bus Company, averting a strike that would have stopped bus and SeaBus service across Metro Vancouver on September 23.

"My congratulations to the bargaining committees for their determination and commitment to get a solid collective agreement to the membership," said Unifor National President Lana Payne. "Transit is an important service and must be properly funded so our members can continue to deliver great service."

Members voted 68 per cent in favour of the agreement. The agreement includes a new Letter of Understanding on running time, recovery time and electronic service sheets, the central issues for transit operators throughout this round of bargaining. Under the Letter of Understanding, any failure by either party to follow its terms goes directly to the mediator for resolution.

"Transit operators told us running time and recovery time had to be fixed, and this agreement puts real enforcement behind that language," said Unifor Western Regional Director Gavin McGarrigle. "Riders across Metro Vancouver can count on their service and our members can get back to the work they are proud of."

With ratification, all job action at Coast Mountain Bus Company ends and the September 23 strike deadline is lifted.

Unifor Local 111 represents transit operators and Local 2200 represents skilled trades, service and SeaBus workers at Coast Mountain Bus Company, which operates bus and SeaBus service across Metro Vancouver.
