Lux Lipo, a physician-led clinic in Northeast Arkansas, is outlining who benefits from body contouring as national data identify restoration as the leading reason patients seek plastic surgery. Candidacy is determined at a consultation, which also covers recovery details such as wearing a compression garment after liposuction. The review also covers where weight-loss patients fit and what the risks involve.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons released its 2025 Procedural Statistics Report on September 1, 2026, showing that cosmetic surgical procedures rose 7% compared with the previous year. Liposuction was one of the three most in-demand procedures. Restoration after life changes such as pregnancy, aging, and weight loss ranked first among patient motivations, according to the report.

Body contouring refers to reshaping areas of the body that diet and exercise alone do not always change. At the clinic, plans center on liposuction and are customized to each patient’s body and goals. A physician evaluates candidates by reviewing their goals and medical history, and the consultation concludes with a written plan outlining treatment and recovery.
The clinic describes the typical candidate as an adult with localized fat deposits that have not responded to diet or exercise. Good skin elasticity is also a criterion because it helps the skin conform to the area’s new shape. Realistic goals are expected as well since the procedures are meant to refine shape and proportion.
Overall health is part of the assessment, since conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes, heart disease, or blood disorders can affect healing. A stable weight is also expected, and candidates are asked to commit to balanced nutrition and regular physical activity afterward. The clinic states that contouring refines shape and is not a weight-loss method.
Separately, the 2025 Procedural Statistics Report states that 82% of member surgeons reported receiving consultation requests related to GLP-1 use. The statistics do not establish a causal link or growth in any specific procedure category. The society’s announcement adds that significant weight loss can leave excess skin and elasticity changes that diet and exercise alone do not address.
For patients who have lost weight, the clinic’s criteria include a stable weight and fat remaining in specific areas. Patients whose main concern is loose skin rather than localized fat may need a different approach, which the clinic assesses during consultation. Weight that is still changing falls outside those criteria, so timing is part of the assessment.
Mayo Clinic’s liposuction guidance notes that liposuction lowers the number of fat cells in an area, but remaining cells can still grow with weight gain. Results usually last as long as weight remains stable.
As with any surgery, liposuction carries risks, and Mayo Clinic's liposuction guidance, dated September 2024, lists contour irregularities, fluid pockets, numbness, and infection among them. Contour irregularities and numbness can be permanent, while infection is rare but possible. The risk of complications increases when larger body areas are treated or when several procedures are performed at once.
It adds that lidocaine, a local anesthetic, is usually safe but can occasionally cause toxicity, and that removing large volumes of fat may require hospital care.
Awake liposuction at the clinic is performed by a physician under local anesthetic, with no general anesthesia required. Patients go home the same day. They should expect swelling and bruising during recovery, and the clinic notes that soreness and numbness in the treated area are common early on.
