BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Oct. 13, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Solution Tree, a leading educational publisher and professional learning organization, recently released a brand-new title called Building Possibilities: Designing Meaningful Education for Students With Complex Learning Needs, written by Beyond Labels associates Kristen M. Bordonaro and Megan Clarke.

Individualized education programs (IEPs) can provide important information about a student's needs, goals, and services, but special education teams also need practical ways to translate that information into purposeful instruction. In their new book, authors Bordonaro and Clarke provide tools to help educators turn static IEPs into active instructional road maps that prioritize meaningful learning and long-term student independence.
The practical manual guides special education teams through developing detailed student profiles, unpacking alternative standards, and aligning lessons with functional skills. By connecting these elements, educators can design instruction that addresses students' individual needs while supporting their participation, self-advocacy, and growing independence.
Building Possibilities also emphasizes the importance of cohesive support systems among educators, families, and service providers. The authors provide guidance for implementing structured routines that enhance students' emotional safety and independence, as well as using innovative assessment methods to track meaningful growth and progress.
The book extends this work beyond the classroom through guidance on transition planning and skill development, helping teams prepare students to lead successful adult lives.
"Remember that our students do not need us to do more. They need us to do what matters with clarity, intention, and belief."
