O'Toole joined star of the film Will Forte and New Yorker columnist Ian Frazier to discuss Plaintiff Wile E. Coyote's personal injury claims
NEW YORK, Aug. 31, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Block O'Toole & Murphy Partner Daniel P. O'Toole joined forces with The New Yorker to analyze the legal side of Warner Brothers' newly released film, Coyote vs. Acme. Alongside New Yorker humorist Ian Frazier and lead actor Will Forte, O'Toole shared some insight into how, exactly, a skilled personal injury attorney would represent the titular Wile E. Coyote's case.
"It's obviously a comedy, but the premise of the movie is very familiar to plaintiff attorneys," said O'Toole. "Representing clients harmed by negligence is all about fighting for justice, no matter how big or powerful the defendants are."
The film, inspired by Frazier's 1990 New Yorker piece, follows Coyote as he attempts to sue Acme, the mega-corporation responsible for his many mishaps throughout the Looney Tunes franchise. Tired and heavily injured from yet another defective Acme product, Coyote hires a personal injury attorney to take the company to court for its gross negligence.
In the New Yorker video, O'Toole explains what he would tell the jury if this were a real product liability or other serious personal injury case.
"The first thing I'm going to do is humanize this guy, for lack of a better term," O'Toole explained in the video. "Wile E. Coyote is not some varmint, some pest... When [the jury] looks at Mr. Coyote at the end of this trial, I want them to look him straight in the eye and see themselves, their best selves, the traits that they're most proud of."
O'Toole is no stranger to this kind of case. In his over three decades of experience as a plaintiff trial attorney, he has recovered more than $2 billion in verdicts and settlements for catastrophically injured clients.
"And with [the jury's] verdict, [we will] send a very clear message to Acme and others like them: that their type of conduct will not be tolerated in this great nation," O'Toole said to wrap up the video.
